SilverSingles vs. OurTime vs. Prime Connect (2026 Comparison)
A frank comparison of the three biggest dating platforms for singles over 55 — pricing, safety, moderation, and what each one is actually best at. Written by someone who has held accounts on all three.
There are three names that come up in almost every conversation about dating over 55: SilverSingles, OurTime, and — increasingly — Prime Connect. They're not the same product. Understanding how they differ will save you real money and real time.
At a glance
Fastest way to think about them:
- SilverSingles — personality-quiz-driven, algorithm-heavy, expensive. Best for members who want to hand the picking to the platform.
- OurTime — largest single senior-only user base in the U.S. Older interface, mixed moderation quality, prone to bot messages.
- Prime Connect — rating-driven and verification-first. Newer, smaller, but the community itself curates who rises to the top.
SilverSingles
SilverSingles opens with a 30-minute personality quiz — a Big Five variant — and uses it to score compatibility with every other member. Every day you get a curated list. Most of the platform's value proposition rests on that quiz being accurate.
What it does well: the demographic is genuinely 50+. Photos and profiles trend toward the polished. The daily-match structure means you're not doomscrolling.
What to watch for: pricing is expensive (roughly $27–37/month billed annually) and the free tier is nearly useless — you can't see photos or messages without a subscription. Cancellation is famously difficult; several state attorneys general have investigated their auto-renewal practices.
OurTime
OurTime is the biggest name in senior dating by user count, part of the Match Group family. If you live in a smaller city and want the largest possible pool of local matches, OurTime wins on raw numbers.
What it does well: reach. In many U.S. metros, OurTime has 3–5× the active over-55 user base of the next competitor. The mobile app has improved substantially over the last two years.
What to watch for: moderation. OurTime has struggled publicly with romance-scam accounts. Their verification badge is opt-in and self-reported. Expect to receive messages from accounts created that week; expect at least a few obvious scams a month. Free tier is browse-only; a functional membership is $30–40/month.
Prime Connect
Full disclosure: this is our platform. But we'll be specific about the tradeoffs.
What it does well: the whole platform is designed around two constraints — you must be 55+ and you must be a real, verified person. Every photo is rated by the community, and members who cross the Golden Threshold (8.0+ average) get their photos hidden behind a $10 reveal — which sounds odd until you understand it as an anti-scam moat. There's no swipe. There's no daily-match cadence forcing decisions on your schedule.
What to watch for: we're smaller. If you're in a rural area with no metro nearby, your local pool will be thin — you may find better luck on OurTime purely on volume. Our best fit right now is members in and around U.S. metros.
How to choose
- You want an algorithm to do the picking → SilverSingles.
- You live in a small town and want maximum local reach → OurTime, but keep your scam radar on.
- You want to be somewhere where every profile is verified and community-rated, and you'd rather see fewer, better people → Prime Connect.
The honest thing to say: many members over 55 who succeed at dating online today end up on two platforms at once. Use the larger one for reach and the curated one for signal. You'll spend less on both than you would going all-in on the wrong single choice.
